Jack Johnson Fight Worn Sash

Jack Johnson Fight Worn Sash

The very sash worn by the first black world champion, Jack Johnson. A powerful, historical hero in the ring annals, his is one of the most fascinating and earliest tales of crossing the color line in sports. Red sash with elegantly tasseled ends was worn by Johnson upon entering the ring before each bout. It is artfully displayed in this large framed display, measuring 31"x28", with matted full color Police Gazette print and black and white photo in which Johnson is shown standing over one of his many victims. Both images show him in similar style sashes . Overall EX-MT, the garment emanates from the famed Tommy Farmer boxing collection, one of the premier boxing collections of the early days. Later obtained by Joel Platt, its provenance and quality make it one of the finest boxing artifacts ever to be offered.
