Extraordinary complete set of eight James E. Pepper whiskey ads (20.5x16”) features the “Fight of the Century” on July 4, 1910 between the formidable Jack Johnson and the champion James Jeffries. Some truly great photos here. Includes round 1 action, round 2, round 14 - Johnson tauntingly smiles at Jeffries, Billy Jordan introducing each fighter before the fight, line-up of the “gladiators and promoters” in Reno Nevada, the knock out, & Jack Johnson collecting his purse that evening. This was one of the most controversial victories in history, as tensions between whites and blacks were running high in America. Jack Johnson’s defeat of James Jeffries incited many white on black violence following the fight. Each one is placed on foam board and shrink wrapped. Condition is VG-EX.
