Jack Johnson-Jess Willard Bucha Gin Poster
On April 5, 1915 in Havana, Cuba, World Heavyweight Champion Jack Johnson fought Jess Willard. Under a grueling sun, the two fought for 26 rounds when suddenly the giant Jess Willard stopped the aging Johnson with a hard, straight right hand. Johnson later claimed to have thrown the fight, but most ring historians dismiss this claim. Offered here is a rare advertising poster made from the famous final knockout photograph. This poster is for Bouvier, the Original Buchu Gin. It advertises the product against the backdrop of the famous knockout of Jack Johnson by Jess Willard. On heavy cardboard, circa 1915. No creases, rips or tears, though there are several small holes on the perimeter from mounting. Good clear image. Print lettering is bold. 14 3/4" x 19".
