Jackie Robinson Signed Check with Rachel Robinson Letter PSA

Jackie Robinson Signed Check with Rachel Robinson Letter PSA

The quote most associated with Jackie Robinson is when he said, "A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives." Judging Jackie Robinson's life by his own standard shows Robinson to have had an enormous impact in that his life affected millions of other lives in a profound way. As a United States Army Officer during World War II, Robinson refused to sit in the rear of a segregated Army bus on a military base. He was court-martialed for standing up for his rights, but he later left the military with an honorable discharge. Robinson played with the Montreal Royals, a Triple A Brooklyn Dodger farm team in 1946 as he broke the minor league "Color Line." He led the Royals to the International League Championship and then the Little World Series Championship, over the Louisville Colonels team of the American Association. Robinson led the International League in '46 in batting as he hit .349, and he also led in stolen bases, with 40. Robinson smashed the Major League Color Line in 1947 when he was the Brooklyn Dodgers Opening Day first baseman in an April 15th game at Ebbets Field. Robinson hit .297 in his rookie season, led the NL with 29 steals, and was the NL Rookie of the Year as he helped the Dodgers to the pennant. In 1949, Robinson was the NL MVP as he led the league in hitting at .342 and stolen bases, with 37. Over his ten season Major League career, all with the Brooklyn Dodgers, Robinson batted .311 lifetime, stole 197 bases, and helped the Dodgers to six pennants and the 1955 World Series Championship. The check measures 2.75x6", and it is drawn on the Chemical Bank New York Trust Company, 633 Third Avenue in New York City. The check is dated "9-17-63," and is made out to Circle Buick for the amount of $2,925.00. It is neatly signed "Jack R. Robinson" in blue ink from a fountain pen. A 1993 Letter of Authenticity from Jackie Robinson's wife, Rachel Robinson, guaranteeing the check to be "100% authentic", accompanies the check. The signed check has been encapsulated and the Robinson autograph certified PSA/DNA "AUTHENTIC."
