James Brown Boxing Style Concert Poster

James Brown Boxing Style Concert Poster

“Boxing style” posters were fashioned after the “Fight Night” posters of the ‘30s, ‘40s and ‘50s. The printers of these posters announcing the lineups at the boxing matches were employed to create concert posters for blues musicians in the mid ‘50s. To make it simpler for themselves, they adapted the boxing style posters to their new business of concert promotion. This poster is trumpeting James Brown and Revue coming to the Rhode Island Auditorium in Providence on October 4, 1968, along with an 18 piece orchestra. Vintage cardboard poster advertising “a show for the entire family.” James Brown and Revue with 18 piece Orchestra. Poster is 22 X 28” and was once folded near the center. Get up, get on up and feel good.
