James Corbett vs. Bob Fitzsimmons March 17, 1897 Fight Program
Emanating from one of the most watched events in the history of boxing comes this program, reprinted from <i>The Sportsman</i> of March 18, 1897. A great memento from this epic “battle” for the World Heavyweight Championship, dubbed “The Fight of the Century.” On this date, “Ruby Robert” Fitzsimmons, the boxing world’s first triple world champion, became the only middleweight champion ever to capture a heavyweight title. In the 14th round of a grueling match, the power punching Brit Ko’ed Corbett, who fell victim to the first defeat of his pro career. Program is unrestored in Excellent condtion and features round-by-round commentary on the bout as well as a bio on each fighter.
