James Corbett vs. Peter Jackson Color Supplement

James Corbett vs. Peter Jackson Color Supplement

On May 21, 1891, James J. Corbett and the great Peter Jackson fought to no contest at the California Athletic Club in San Francisco. Both were adept boxers and it was clear after 30 rounds that no man might come out the victor. After Corbett won the title from John L. Sullivan in 1892, there was some speculation that the two might fight again. Richard K. Fox of the Police Gazette produced a marvelous color supplement dated May 19, 1894, picturing the two in square off pose with inserts of Chas. Davies and Corbett's manager, William Brady. This supplement is presented here. Measuring 17" x 23," it is in fine condition with deep color, perfect images of the fighters, and the original folds. As nice an example as we have seen.
