James Dean Car Wrecking Photograph (PSA Type III)

Original Type I photo capturing the twisted wreckage of James Dean's 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder in which he was killed on September 30, 1955. Dean had just begun pursuing a career in auto racing and was on his way to compete in the Salinas Road Race when he crashed into another car that had turned in front of him. Dean's injuries were severe, and he was declared dead on arrival when he arrived by ambulance at the hospital. One of Hollywood's most popular young actors, his death rocked the nation and over 2,400 fans gathered outside the church during his funeral. Following his death, he became the first actor to receive a posthumous Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, for his role as Cal Trask in <em>East of Eden</em>. Two Brown Brothers credit stamps appear on the reverse, along with a handwritten caption in pencil. The photo (10x8") displays light staining along the top border (noticeable mainly from the reverse) and is in Very Good condition overall.&nbsp;Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive.&nbsp;<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">PSA encapsulated as Type III Authentic.</span>
