James Monroe & John Quincy Adams Signed Document (10x14")

Partially handwritten document, dated October 17, 1820, signed by President James Monroe & Secretary of State John Quincy Adams. Regarding the passage of the ship, William of NY, it reads, “By the President of the United States of America, suffer the Ship Williams of New York, John Adams master or commander of the burthen of two hundred fifty one tons or thereabouts mounted with no guns navigated with eleven men to pass with her Company Passengers Goods and Merchandise without any hinderance seizure or molestation the said ship appearing by good testimony to belong to one or more of the Citizens of the United States and to him or them only…” The black fountain pen signatures of Monroe & Adams are still remarkably bold, despite the origin of this document nearly two centuries ago, receiving a “6” and “7” grade. The document itself is curled with original folds, the President’s seal in lower left corner completely faded to white. Americana graphics at the top are still bold. VG. Beautifully matted with photos of the 5th and 6th Presidents on either side. Display is framed to 35x25”.
