Joe DiMaggio Day Program Signed by Mel Allen
On October 1, 1949, Joe DiMaggio Day was held at Yankee Stadium, and when Joltin' Joe stepped to the mic, history was made when he thanked "the good Lord for making [him] a Yankee." This is your chance to own a fascinating piece of history from that memorable day. Featuring the official program and scorecard (the 5-4 Yankees victory has been scored in pencil on the centerfold scorecard), this lot has been signed on its cover by Hall of Fame broadcaster and that afternoon's master of ceremonies, Mel Allen. Allen's signature, written in very visible blue ballpoint pen, is preceded by the handwritten text, "JOE "D" DAY MASTER OF CEREMONIES" and, underneath, dated "10/1/49". Overall, the lot is in incredible condition, as the program has been well preserved, showing vibrant colors and with only lightly worn corners. Also included in this lot are newspaper clippings from The New York Times edition printed the following day - October 2, 1949 - which detail all the events from The Yankee Clipper's historic afternoon in the Bronx.
