Joe Louis vs. Max Schmeling The Ring Magazine Original Painting

Joe Louis vs. Max Schmeling The Ring Magazine Original Painting

Gorgeous original oil on canvas by C.R. Schaare was created for the cover of The Ring Magazine during the 1930s. Brilliant original paint and colors have not faded a bit. EX-MT condition overall and framed to 24 x 32". This was most likely done for the second meeting between these two fighters on June 22, 1938, as Schmeling's smiling face looms in the background and Joe Louis sits in the foreground with contemplative look of resolve. He may have been pondering the pressure he was under to defeat the German fighter to blunt the Nazi propaganda machine. The Brown Bomber would do just that, scoring a first round KO.
