Joe Louis WWII Recruiting Poster With Religious Appeal

Joe Louis WWII Recruiting Poster With Religious Appeal

Despite being a top-flight fighter, Joe Louis was also an important figure during World War II. The heavyweight champion fought a charity bout for the Navy Relief Society against his former opponent, Buddy Baer on January 9, 1942, which generated $47,000 for the fund. The next day, he volunteered to enlist as a private in the United States Army at Camp Upton, New York. Offered here is an original U.S. Army recruiting poster picturing Joe Louis and using his famous quotation, "We're going to do our part and we'll win because we're on God's side." The framed poster measures 28.25" x 40.25", has typical fold lines and is in EX-MT condition.
