Joe Namath & Dan Marino Signed Lithographs by Angelo Marino
For any fan of all-time great pro quarterbacks, this offering of two signed lithographs of Hall of Fame quarterbacks Dan Marino and Joe Namath provides a great opportunity to enhance any sports collection. Marino played his entire 17-year pro career (1983-99) with the Miami Dolphins, and he led the Dolphins to 10 playoff seasons and an appearance in Super Bowl XIX. Although Marino never won a Super Bowl, he is regarded as one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history. He completed 4,967 passes for 61,361 yards and had 420 touchdown passes with 252 interceptions. Marino had a very strong arm and an ultra-quick release. He also possessed an uncanny ability to maneuver in the pocket to avoid a sack. He still holds the NFL record for the lowest season sack percentage at merely 1%, in 1988, and Marino also holds the lowest career sack percentage in NFL history, at 3%. Joe Namath played 13 pro seasons (1965-77), 12 with the New York Jets and one season with the Los Angeles Rams. He was a 2-time AFL MVP with the Jets. The Marino lithograph measures approx. 18x24", and Marino has signed and inscribed his lithograph in pencil, writing "Dan Marino 13" at the bottom of the lithograph and artist Angelo Marino also signed his name, in the lower right bottom. The offering comes with two small color photos, apparently one of them shows Dan Marino and the artist, Angelo Marino, most likely not related. The second included photo is apparently of the artist at work. In the second lithograph, Namath is most remembered for engineering the amazing upset in Super Bowl III when his Jets, 19-point underdogs, defeated the Baltimore Colts by 16-7, and he garnered Super Bowl III MVP honors. Before the game, Norm Van Brocklin, Hall of Fame quarterback and then coach of the Atlanta Falcons, derisively said of Namath, "I'll tell you what I think of Joe Namath on Sunday night - after he plays his first professional game on Sunday." Three days before Super Bowl III, Namath was at a press conference, and he replied to a heckler by stating, "We're going to win the game - I guarantee it." Namath showed Van Brocklin and the world, and after The Jets took the AFL to the league's first ever Super Bowl victory, the AFL merged with the NFL. The Namath signed limited edition lithograph measures approx. 19.5x24". Namath signed and inscribed the lithograph in the lower left corner by signing in pencil, writing "Joe Namath x [#?] 12." Artist Angelo Marino also used pencil to sign and inscribe the lithograph, writing "28/300 Angelo Marino" in the lower right corner.
