Joe Willie Namath Signed Inscribed New York Jets Jersey

Joe Willie Namath Signed Inscribed New York Jets Jersey

"We're going to win the game. I guarantee it," said Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Willie Namath to a heckler at a Miami sports banquet three days before Super Bowl III in 1969. Despite being the leader of the heavy underdog Jets, Namath's boast came true as he led the Jets to a 16-7 victory over the Baltimore Colts in the first triumph of an AFL team over an NFL team in the Super Bowl. Namath had led Alabama to a National Championship in college, and he was the first overall choice in the 1965 AFL Draft. Before the AFL-NFL merger, Namath played five seasons in the AFL and was a 2-time MVP, a 2-time passing yardage leader, and the MVP of Super Bowl III. Known as "Broadway Joe," Namath helped to give the AFL legitimacy, and his man-about-town New York City social life gave the fledgling AFL tremendous publicity. Namath played 13 years of pro football, all but the last (with the Los Angeles Rams) with the Jets. Namath's statistics do not tell the real story about a go-for-broke quarterback who threw the ball a country mile, resulting in many touchdowns, lots of interceptions, and electric excitement. The offered signed Namath jersey is white, with green trim. In the neck is a Champion manufacturer's tag showing "X-Large" size. Under the above-mentioned tag is a tag giving washing instructions and categorizing the jersey as "100% cotton." The front has the number "12" in green sewn-on numerals. Each sleeve has a white "12" sewn onto a green background. The left sleeve has a sewn-on Champion logo. On the left outside waist is a New York Jets "Super Bowl III/1968 AFL-NFL Champions" tag. Under the above-mentioned tag is a "Champion NFL Throwbacks Vintage Collection" tag. On the back is a sewn-on NFL logo tag. Below that tag is "12," in sewn-on green numerals. Namath has signed and inscribed the jersey on the numeral "1" of the number "12" on back. Namath used a black marker to sign and inscribe "Joe Willie Namath x12." Namath's signature and inscription are big, bold and beautifully scripted.
