John Entwistle Collection including Personally Owned Jacket (3)
Three pieces associated with this influential bassist. First, there is a black Levi’s cotton shirt, with white snap buttons and a gold star on each lapel, previously owned by Entwistle and given to Chris Tassone, who refers to the Ox as a “dear friend” in the enclosed Letter of Authenticity. Secondly, there is a Who program from 1981, perfectly signed on the cover by Entwistle in black ink. His signature (10/10) is presented just below his picture in the group shot. EX, measuring 9 ? x 11 ?”, the program has a scrapbook style and is in NRMT shape. Lastly, offered in this Entwistle triple play, is a blue, slightly tie dyed, long sleeve t-shirt of the famous image of the Beatles crossing Abbey Road. What’s the connection, you ask? John Entwistle was part of a Beatles tribute band called Abbey Road, which included such luminaries as Todd Rundgren, Ann Wilson, and Alan Parsons, but also had support by members of his own band, including the presenter of this item, drummer and very close friend, Steve Luongo. The t-shirt seems to have no official association with the tribute band, but is signed with affection by Luongo and Entwistle on the back. What seems to be the Luongo inscription is written “A Walk Down” above the screened-on “Abbey Road”. But it is Entwistle’s playful inscription (and signature above) that stands out and seems to respond to what Luongo wrote, with the correction, “A Stagger Down” (with arrow pointing to) Abbey Road. All in black sharpie, with signatures rating a 10/10.
