John F. Kennedy Personally Used Golf Ball & Tee
President John F. Kennedy was perhaps the best golfer of all the U.S. Presidents. Presented is a John F. Kennedy personally used golf ball and personally used golf tee. Dwight D. Eisenhower was the president best known for his golfing, as it is estimated that he played 800 rounds of golf during his presidency, which comes out to about a hundred rounds of golf per year. If fact, Eisenhower played so much golf that his Democratic opponents learned to use it against "Ike," arguing that if Eisenhower spent more time in the Oval Office instead of out on the golf course, that the country would be in better shape. When Kennedy became president in 1961, he was wary of being criticized for his golf playing as was Eisenhower, so Kennedy played more private golf and kept a lot of his golfing outings out of range of the media. Ben Bradlee, famed journalist and later the managing editor of the Washington Post, knew JFK when the future President was a U.S. Senator and living in Boston, as was Bradlee, who had graduated two years earlier from Harvard than Kennedy. Bradlee wrote about playing golf with JFK. "He's fun to play with because he doesn't take it too seriously and he keeps up a constant stream of conversation," noted Bradlee. The offered golf ball is stamped "John F. Kennedy" on one side and "Mr. President" on the other side. Under each of the foregoing appellations is a red "2." Imprinted on the ball is "steel center." There is no brand name on the golf ball, and the ball has faded from white to off-white over the passage of years. Along with the JFK golf ball is a JFK tee. The tee measures approx. 2.1" in length. It was most likely originally red, but in the approx. six decades since its use, it has faded to an orange color. On the golf tee is imprinted "John. F. Kennedy." The ball and tee were originally sourced from Robert White, who was a well-known collector of JFK memorabilia, and White possessed an extensive collection. The JFK golf ball and tee show moderate use, and they are in very good condition.
