John L. Sullivan Boxing Broadside
John L. Sullivan was the first heavyweight champion of gloved boxing from 1881-1892 and the last champion of bare-knuckle boxing. Young, strong and brash, Sullivan would boast frequently "I can lick any man in the house." This 19th century star was the first athlete to become a national celebrity and the first sports star to earn over $1 million. The frame shows a picture of Sullivan in a top hat and overcoat and an ad saying that Sullivan will appear with other entertainers in a Grand Revival of Roman Sports. The wooden 18x21" frame has a black background.
