John L. Sullivan Handwritten Letter (1908)
This personal letter written to his friend John on stationary from The Powers Hotel in Rochester NY is dated January 24, 1908, years after he reigned supreme for a decade as World Heavyweight Champion. John L. Sullivan is regarded as the most famous of the American bare knuckle fighters and after dominating the world boxing circuit from 1882-1892 he was beaten by Gentleman Jim Corbett. The letter which is four pages long is beautifully preserved in a leather binding. Each page of the bound letter is in EX condition with the original fold lines, evidence from being mailed, as the only creasing that is present. There is also only very minor age spotting, quite remarkable for a document of this age. This is truly a scarce piece of boxing history that can be treasured for generations to come.
