John L. Sullivan Signed Handwritten Letter (1900) and Vintage Photo (circa. 1880's)
This framed presentation includes both a handwritten letter dated May 18th, 1900 and a vintage photograph which dates between 1882 and 1885 of John L. Sullivan, the World Champion Pugilist and bare knuckles legend. The letter composed by Sullivan is 9" x 11" on one sheet of paper, written on both sides, each visible with the type of framing used. The display framing measures 15 1/8" x 27 3/4" with beige colored matting. The photograph measures 4" x 6 1/2 " and is VG condition. The content of the letter extols the virtues of the "The Famous Crescent Team", a baseball club based in Chicago. It is written in black ink with a steel tip pen and concludes with Sullivan's signature and inscription, "Ex Champion of the World." While the grammar and spelling are far from perfect, his penmanship is extraordinary earning his signature a 9.5/10. The item displays beautifully with legible handwriting throughout. The letter is separated horizontally, probably from excessive folding, but both halves are present and appear as one in the frame. LOA.
