John M. Ward Baseball Fan

John M. Ward Baseball Fan

Late 19th century hand fan highlighted by the soft colored image of Hall of Famer John Ward. Produced using the desirable process of stonewashed lithography. Though best remembered for his extraordinary integrity and endless crusades for the rights of his fellow players, Monte’s talents on the diamond were equally impressive. Ward's face, encircled by a peach colored ribbon that has been gathered and stitched, measures 7.75” in diameter and displays only three minor creases. On verso, “Sold By C. Philpot, Springfield, ME.” black stamping is faded and broken at points, though legible. This extremely rare piece has been beautifully preserved throughout the years, showing only the most minor of wear and discoloration along the trimming. One of only a few known. Overall EX.
