John McNally Signed Check
This check signed “John V. McNally” is a super rarity! It is one of the very few times John McNally ever signed any document with his real name. Instead, football fans with a good sense of history knew him by his adopted name of “Johnny Blood”, which he took from a Rudolph Valentino movie, “Blood and Sand.” McNally wore the name well during a 15-year NFL career in the ‘20s and ‘30s, most notably as a halfback with the Packers and as player-coach with the Steelers (nee Pirates). He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1963. The check dated October 24, 1961 is made out to cash for $100. The signature in blue pen is EX-NRMT, as is the light blue check from the Riggs National Bank of Washington, D.C. with “John V. McNally” imprinted on the top left.
