Josh Gibson 1939 Santurce Winter League Negative

Josh Gibson 1939 Santurce Winter League Negative

Surely one of the greatest players in the history of baseball, catcher and home run legend Josh Gibson had many triumphant seasons in the Negro League. Although he died tragically at 35 and never played in the Major Leagues, Gibson was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1972. In 1939, he signed with the Santurce Crabbers of the Puerto Rican Winter League, and is seen in this 6 1/2" x 5" negative with two teammates and a bat boy. Prints from this negative have appeared in books and articles on related subjects. Overall condition is EX, but there are two scratches along the bottom edge, which do not affect the central image.
