Fuchs Memorial Award, in the form of a highly ornatesilver tray, presented by the Boston Baseball Writers Association of America toformer Boston Red Sox outfielder Hugh Duffy in 1972. The tray, which measures 30.25x20.25&rdquo;,displays detailed floral patterns in relief along the perimeter, with equallyornate patterns engraved in the center. The engraved lettering in the center ofthe tray reads &ldquo;Judge Emil F. Fuchs Memorial Award/Presented to/George E. &lsquo;Duffy&rsquo;Lewis/For His Outstanding Baseball Career/As A Player/Boston Chapter BaseballWriters Association of America/January 27, 1972.&rdquo; </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; color: black;">The Judge Emil Fuchs Memorial Award, which is presented annually bythe Boston Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA), is the chapter&rsquo;shighest honor and goes to those individuals who have demonstrated long andmeritorious service to baseball. The award was established in 1959 and formerrecipients include Hank Aaron, Marvin Miller, and Ernie Harwell. Hugh Duffy, whowas eighty-three years old when he accepted this award in 1972, was a keymember of the Red Sox&rsquo;s 1912, 1915, and 1916 World Championship clubs. From1910 to 1915 he teamed with Tris Speaker and Harry Hooper to form one of thegreatest defensive outfields in baseball history. Following his playing career,Lewis became the traveling secretary for the Boston Braves, a position he heldfrom 1936 through 1961. The tray displays a few light scratches and minortarnishing.
