Knute Rockne Bronze Door Stop
Could there be a more fitting tribute to "The Rock" than this "rock solid" bronze doorstop that could pass for a steel ingot? That sort of indominability, of course, was Rockne's trademark, when the thought of facing his Notre Dame teams was about as inviting as eating sulphur. Rockne didn't rack up the all-time winning percentage (.881) and 6 national titles from 1918 to 1930 by being an old softie. The 8" high doorstop, which seems more like a Hall of Fame statue, apparently was crafted after his tragic death in a plane crash and bears on a 6" wide base the raised-letter engraved "Knute Rockne All-American", the title of the 1940 movie made about him. The bookends are more commonly seen, the doorstops are as rare as Rockne losses.
