As big as the legend, this large poster measuring 33" x 47” interprets Duke Ellington (“and his famous orchestra”) in a wonderfully impressionistic image - organic, earthy, abstract and expressionistic with vague symbols painted in black, all encircling and overlaying upon a photograph of his endearingly joyful face. All in crimson tones of red, it is a stunning piece of poster art by eminent German poster artists Gunther Kieser and Hans Michel; any of their original jazz posters are rare and always in demand. Highlighted at bottom right are the members of his orchestra, including Johnny Hodges on alto sax, Ray Nance on trumpet and violin and William “Cat” Anderson on trumpet, among other luminary sidemen. Circa late-1950s/early-1960s, in EX condition.
