Late 1920's "Sad" Sam Jones Game Worn Jersey
A fine and exceptionally rare white pinstriped flannel jersey from the veteran hurler who shared the mound with Walter Johnson. Jerseys from this era are very tough, especially from known players, making this one particularly remarkable. Logo "W" on both sleeves mark the extent of the adornment. Right sleeve is hacked short, a primitive modification to make the jersey more wearable, like the drawstring at the waist tied through a hole poked crudely through the fabric. These old guys were no prima donnas. "Spalding" tag in collar, with "Jones" stitched in well-faded red thread to the right. Typical light staining apparent throughout, but nothing that tarnishes the overall beauty (and certainly not the importance or intrigue). Look for Sad Sam's cap elsewhere in this auction. Both were acquired from his estate.
