Late 1930’s Cuban Stars Negro League Barnstorming Team Uncut Sheet
Very unusual piece that we have not seen before. It appears to be an uncut sheet of baseball cards made to be cut out by kids. It was likely given out as a promotion. The barnstormers here are some of the greats of the teens and twenties who obviously went on tour sometime in the late 1930s based on their ages. 14 players include Joe Maria Fernandez (longtime manager of the Negro League's Cuban Stars), Julio Rojo, Jose “Lopito” Lopes and Isidro Fabre. The verso is stamped by the manufacturer (?) “DLRG.” The owner has typed in his name as well, Elmer Boomershine (a very African American name rather than Cuban). This piece also came out of the U.S. and therefore appears to be American. Measures 6.5x11” and has some creasing and edge damage.
