Late 1970s Julius "Dr. J" Erving Game Worn Converse Sneakers
<p>It may be hard to believe for younger basketball fans, but in popularity, Julius Erving was the LeBron James of his time. Erving was a 6'6" forward whose specialty was playing above the rim. Known as "Doctor J", Erving was acclaimed for his ability to levitate and seemingly hang in the air with the basketball, deciding in a split-second to pass or employ one of many versions of his flying dunks. Erving was the top star in the ABA, and his creative, electric play helped to put the ABA in the limelight and that helped to lead to merger with the NBA after the 1975-76 season. As a member of the Virginia Squires, New York Nets, and Philadelphia 76ers, Erving was a 3-time league champion, a 3-time scoring leader, and a 4-time MVP. These offered sneakers show light use with creases in all the right spots. There is a tag "Converse All-Stars" on the top tongue of each sneaker, and "Dr J" is imprinted in red letters on the outside instep of each shoe. These Converse All-Stars sneakers come from a collector who owned the sneakers for 25 years and originally got them from a friend who personally knew Erving. There is no size tag on the inside of the sneaker, but these large sneakers measure 14" from toe to heel.</p>
