Lot Of Two Jack Dempsey Fight Tickets
Two unused and nearly pristine ducats from the Manassa Mauler’s key fights against Jess Willard (July 4, 1919) and Georges Carpentier (July 2, 1921). $10 bleacher seat from Dempsey’s first crack at the heavyweight crown -- when he destroyed the huge and seemingly unbeatable Willard in Toledo, Ohio, knocking him down 7 times in round 1, breaking his nose and crushing his ribs before Jess gave up after round 3 - lists both men’s purses: $100,000 for Willard, $27,500 for Dempsey. 2.75 x 6.75” ticket has 2 sections and a striking yellow interior with red & black lettering. Second is a $5.50 ticket from Dempsey’s 3rd title defense against Carpentier in Jersey City which marked boxing’s first $ 1 million gate, stoked by promoters contrasting Dempsey’s alleged draft-dodging in WWI with Carpentier heroic service in the French Army. Dempsey KO’d him anyway, in 4 rounds, in front of 80,183 fans. 2.5 x 6.25” ticket has 3 sections and a light beige interior with red & black lettering. Both NRMT.
