Lou Ambers Fight-Worn Robe

Lou Ambers was born on November 8, 1913 in Herkimer, New York and won the World Lightweight Title from Tony Canzoneri on September 3, 1936. In his career, he fought many important boxers of the day including: Honey Mellody, Johnny Jadick, Fritzie Zivic, Henry Armstrong, Jimmy McLarnin and Pedro Montanez. He retired after losing to Lew Jenkins on February 28, 1941 with a final record of 86-8-6 with 27 KOs. Offered here is his rare, fight-worn robe. On the back in bold letters is sewn his nickname, "Herkimer Hurricane." The robe consists of brown cloth with orange trim and orange sash. Knee length. Heavy wear and soiling. Not sure to which fight it is attributed. Came from the wife of one of Ambers' sparring partners.
