Major 19th Century Boxing Newspapers (10)
These fabulous 10 pages of boxing coverage in the March 17, 1897 San Francisco Examiner describe in great detail the titanic title bout between Britain's Bob Fitzsimmons and American Jim Corbett. The heavyweight championship match lasted 14 rounds and the result was considered shocking due to Corbett's edges in weight and skill but a jab to the solar plexus ultimately determined the outcome. Numerous illustrations, as well as vintage advertisements, weather blurbs and other tidbits make this a time capsule treasure. Condition is GD-VG considering the age, but there are a few small holes and yellowing in the pages. The paper is housed in original black portfolio binder with plastic pages, great for storage and display.
