May 30, 1982 Cal Ripken First Game of Streak Ticket

May 30, 1982 Cal Ripken First Game of Streak Ticket

Rest is overrated. That was Cal Ripken, Jr.'s motto for 16 years when the Baltimore Orioles infielder played 2,632 consecutive games to break Lou Gehrig's Iron Man streak. One day after manager Earl Weaver sat the second-year player in Game 2 of a doubleheader on May 29, 1982, he penciled in the Hall of Famer at third base the next afternoon at Memorial Stadium, and the rest is history. This EX-MT general admission ticket stub was used on May 30 - Day 1 of "The Streak." No one thought anything of it when Ripken went 0-2 with a walk during a 6-0 loss vs. the Blue jays that day... but the next time the 19-time All-Star would sit out an O's game would be September 19, 1998.
