In October of 1958 the National Aeronautics and Space Administration announced their plans to explore the final frontier through a mission they labeled Project Mercury. Four of the the seven brave men, later tagged "The Mercury Seven" by the media, chosen for this task have each left their mark on this Spalding ONL (Giles) baseball during a gathering at a Los Angeles Dogers game. Included are: Scott Carpenter, Gus Grissom, Walter Schirra, and Alan Shepard. Three of the signatures display as 6/10 with Schirra's being a 2/10 due to considerable fading. The ball itself is evenly toned with stampings that are faded, VG.
