Mickey Mantle Game Used and Autographed 1960 World Series Bat
From one of the most powerful players in the game, Mickey Mantle’s game-used and signed bat from the 1960 World Series is a jewel of timber. Going into the 1960 championship, the Yanks were on a 15-game winning streak, and Mantle was an integral part (league-high of 40) of their American League record of 193 home runs, but the fabled Bronx Bombers failed to take that ’60 World Championship from the eventual winners, the Pittsburgh Pirates, though not without trying, as, in game 2, Mantle hit two home runs at Forbes field to give them a 16-3 victory. Mantle would also later play a pivotal part in the ninth inning of the seventh and Series-deciding final game - known more for Pirate Bill Mazeroski’s Series-winning ninth-inning home run - when he not only got a hit and drove in Bobby Richardson, but in a critical base-running judgment, after Yogi Berra’s out at first base, decided not to continue to second where a Series-ending out awaited, and ran back safely to first, with just enough time and activity to score Gil McDougald with the tying run. The Yankees would lose it all, but Mantle’s savvy hitting and running kept the hope alive, and adds some mojo to this Adirondack 113A bat, measuring 35.5", and weighing 32 oz. Tons of ball and seam marks, mainly concentrated to the right-hand hitting surface. Autographed in black Sharpie, and rates a 9/10 overall.
