Mid 19th Century Boxing Engraving-The Great Fight
Colorful vintage boxing engraving depicting "The Great Fight Between Broome and Hannan" for one thousand pounds. The engraving shows two barefisted boxers in the center of a makeshift ring in a field with many spectators gathered to watch. The contest between these great fighters took place on January 26, 1841 before several thousand spectators at New Park Farm near Bicester, Oxen, on the border of Buckinghamshire. The battle lasted an hour and 19 minutes and 47 rounds, when Broome was finally declared the winner. Both fighters vital statistics are included in the writing below the scene. The engraving measures approximately 27 x 18" and is placed in a handsome black frame measuring approximately 30 x 24". EX-MT to NRMT.
