Mike Shannon St. Louis Cardinals Signed Professional Model Bat

Mike Shannon St. Louis Cardinals Signed Professional Model Bat

Mike Shannon was a third baseman from the St. Louis area who played his entire career with the St. Louis Cardinals (1962-70), and later was a Cardinals' broadcaster. Presented is a signed Mike Shannon professional model bat. Shannon was a fine fielder whose best offensive season was in 1968, when he hit .266, with 15 home runs and 79 RBIs, and was seventh in National League MVP voting. Mike was a 2-time World Series Champion. His playing career ended after only nine Major League seasons because he contracted nephritis, a kidney disease. He then spent 50 years as a Cardinals' broadcaster, mostly working with Jack Buck. In 1966, Shannon hit the last home run at the first Busch Stadium (Sportsman's Park) and the first home run at the second Busch Stadium (Busch Memorial Stadium). The offered bat is a Hillerich & Bradsby Louisville Slugger signature bat with Shannon's facsimile signature etched into the barrel. The bat is 34.8" in length, and it weighs 33.6 ounces. It is signed by Shannon on the barrel in black 9/10 Sharpie. The bat is from the 1973-75 labeling period after Shannon was retired as a player. There is no model number on the knob, but this is a vintage Pro Model 125 bat.
