Muhammad Ali Signed Personal Check From 1974
Personal check made out and signed by Muhammad Ali on Aug. 2, 1974 - less than 3 months before he won back the heavyweight crown by rope-a-doping George Foreman in the Rumble in the Jungle. Check from the account of Muhammad Ali and his wife Belinda T. Ali is drawn on funds form Guaranty Bank & Trust of Chicago and is made out in Ali’s hand to a Melvin Swainson in the amount of $300. Signed in bold black ink, this is a knockout Ali example that grades 10/10. Curiously, rather than using a boxing motif, check has the figure of a man performing martial arts in the upper left corner, and the background is of an idyllic tropical island paradise. But then, who could ever figure Ali out? 3 x 6” check is VG w/some soiling of the white border areas and the ink a bit smudged on the right (NOT affecting the valuable signature).
