Murderer’s Row Photo
Sublime, stirring original photo of the meat of the Yankees’ “Murderer’s Row”, taken on Opening Day at a bunting draped Yankee Stadium on April 14, 1931. That season the team hit only 3 fewer home runs than in 1927 when the “Murderer’s Row” phrase was coined. From left to right, leaning on their Sequoia-sized bats in front of the Yankee dugout stand Lou Gehrig, Earle Combs, Tony Lazzeri and Babe Ruth, all with a cocksure swagger that could make a pitcher’s knees go wobbly. Note that the Yankees had not yet begun wearing the “NY” logo on their pinstriped shirts. 8 x 9.5” photo is impressively EX w/nice sharp edges and corners. Back has an attached sheet ID’ing the “Yankee batters” and the occasion. Stamped April 16, 1931, when the photo was published.
