Nellie Fox Chicago Sports Hall of Fame Induction Award & More (4)
This collection of Nellie Fox personal items, all of which originate directly from the Fox family, is highlighted by his Chicago Sports Hall of Fame Induction Award. The Chicago Sports Hall of Fame was founded in 1979, and in 1981 Fox was inducted posthumously for his many accomplishments as a member of the Chicago White Sox from 1950 to 1963. The award, which consists of a large metallic "C" mounted atop a wooden base, bears a plaque on the front that reads "Presented to Nelson 'Nellie' Fox in recognition of achievements during an outstanding career as second baseman for the Chicago White Sox - 1981 Chicago Sports Hall of Fame." The award was accepted by Fox's wife and is accompanied by a program (5.5x9", NM) from the event and a one-page typed-signed letter (8.5x11", VG) to Fox's wife from the director of the Chicago Sports Hall of Fame thanking her for donating many of Fox's personal baseball items. The letter is accompanied by the original mailing envelope The remainder of the collection consists of the following: 1) A cowboy hat, produced by Resistol, that was presented to Fox by the Texas Rangers baseball team. (Fox was a coach for the Washington Senators/Texas Rangers from 1968 to 1972). The hat (size 7 1/8) displays no wear. NM. 2-3) Pair of identical circa 1950s Chicago White Sox porcelain mugs. Each mug (5.75" high, 3.24" base diameter) bears the White Sox team logo on the front. Manufactured by Bill's Specialty Company of Milwaukee, as noted on the underside. Minor age toning, otherwise NM.
