I wish the season was over." Indeed, the '27 Yankees still stand as the gold standard of sporting brilliance. On offense, the Yanks led the Majors with 158 home runs, 975 runs scored, 908 RBIs and a .307 team batting average. Babe Ruth led the way with a then-record 60 home runs, a mark which would stand for 34 years. Overall, Ruth hit .356 and had 165 RBI Dominant? Sure. But according to league MVP voters, he wasn't even the best player on his own team as that honor would go to Lou Gehrig.
