NHL Collection With Lester Patrick Signed New York Rangers Contract
Part of this lot honors Lester Patrick, a pioneer in hockey. After playing in the first NHL season of 1910-11, Patrick went on to found the Pacific Coast Hockey Association. He later became coach and general manager of the NHL New York Rangers, guiding the team to the Stanley Cup in 1928, 1933 and 1940. He was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1947, and the NHL’s Lester Patrick Award honors outstanding service to hockey in the United States. There are two items from the NHL’s 1968 Third Annual Lester Patrick Award Dinner. The invitation is in GD condition. The 1968 Award Dinner program is in FR condition with the bottom very creased and folded with several small tears, there are brown stains on the cover and on the inside of the program. There are two contracts in this collection. The first is an NHL standard player contract between the New York Rangers and Reg Mackey dated 1921, signed by Lester Patrick as manager of the Rangers. The second contract is a standard agreement between the Boston Area Professional Hockey Club and Reg Mackey dated 1929, and includes the signature of Club President George Brown. Both contracts have the standard 3 folds, are worn at the edges but otherwise are VG. This lot includes a group of four hockey books. The 1930 rules and regulations of the International Hockey League (in French), paperbound in GD condition except for worn and torn covers. The 1930-31 Spalding Official Hockey Guide has been hard bound in maroon cloth with gold imprint of Rufus J. Trimble on cover and is VG. The 1925 Spalding Official Foot Ball Rules is softbound with black cloth and is GD. The 1917 Spalding Official Athletic Almanac is hardbound in orange cloth, and is FR with the covers loose, several pages have small tears. The last two books have the imprint of George V. Brown on the cover.
