Antonio Brown "Meltdown" Undershirt (Selfie Provenance)

Antonio Brown "Meltdown" Undershirt (Selfie Provenance)

Offered is the undershirt that Tampa Bay Bucs wide receiver Antonio Brown tossed into the stands at Met Life Stadium during his infamous meltdown early in the third quarter of the January 2, 2022, game against the home New York Jets. At that point in the game, Brown had three catches for 26 yards. Tampa Bay was losing by a score of 24-10, and Brown had earlier been briefly benched. When head coach Bruce Arians wanted Brown to re-enter the game, Brown started to remove his uniform. He took off his jersey, shoulder pads and this black Nike Pro t-shirt. He left the Tampa Bay bench and headed down the sideline towards the end zone, and as he was at about the ten-yard line, he threw his receiving gloves and this tee-shirt into the stands. Tampa Bay came back to win the game 28-24. After the incident, Brown alleged that his ankle was too injured for him to re-enter the game. In contrast, Tampa Bay alleged that Brown was capable of playing and in need of mental counseling. When he walked off the field, Brown was close to qualifying for three bonuses, each worth $333,333. He needed eight more catches for his receiving bonus; 55 more receiving yards for his receiving yardage bonus; and one receiving touchdown for his receiving touchdown bonus. He would have had most of the second half of this game, and the whole season-finale game in Week 18 to reach his bonuses. Brown had played from 2011-2018 with the Pittsburgh Steelers and during that time period, he had more receptions that any other NFL player. He had been plagued by several off-field incidents in his career, and at the urging of Tom Brady, he had been signed to a Tampa Bay contract. The t-shirt has a tag on the lower left outside front tail that reads, "Nike". On the lower left front inside tail is a tag listing washing instructions and a smaller tag underneath that reads, "S", for small size. On the left front chest is the Nike "Swoosh". Both the front and back of the collar read, "Nike Pro", and inside of the shirt just below the collar has a Nike "Swoosh", and reads, "Dri-Fit". Also included is a selfie of the consignor holding the shirt after catching it!
