One Of The Finest Willie Foster Signatures Extant

One Of The Finest Willie Foster Signatures Extant

Negro Leaguer and Baseball Hall of Famer Willie Foster's scarce autograph is one of the great mysteries of the hobby. This pristine example grading 9.5/10 on a 3 x 5" index card is the finest we have ever seen. Foster was not too responsive to mail requests for his autograph, (it seems few collectors had the foresight to ask,) the offered example was obtained by fellow Baseball Hall of Famer Ray Dandridge and presented as a gift to our consignor. Foster was the leading vote getter and the winning pitcher in the inaugural East-West All-Star Game in 1933. This is one of the rarest Negro League/HOF signatures, as he was inducted to the Hall of Fame in 1996, 18 years after his death. Black ballpoint pen autograph is perfect at the lower portion of the card. "Willie Foster.... Negro Leagues" neatly typed at the top edge.
