One Of The Last Autographs Signed By Roberto Clemente

One Of The Last Autographs Signed By Roberto Clemente

New Year's Eve, 1972: a tragic day in baseball history. On that fateful date, MVP and twelve-time Golden Glove winner Roberto Clemente's airplane crashed into the Pacific Ocean while the player was on a humanitarian mission to deliver aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua. His body was never recovered. This autograph was signed in Puerto Rico on the very morning of that doomed flight. Signed at breakfast in a local diner, the autograph is in spanish, written in pencil, and rates a 7/10. It was left on a torn, folded, holiday-themed placemat from the restaurant, and was personalized to one of the waitresses. A truely marvelous piece, this is quite possibly the last autograph the player ever signed.
