Original 1950 Jackie Robinson Doll w/Bat & Jacket
In 1949, Jackie Robinson had a tremendous season. He batted .342 to lead the National League, and he also led the NL in stolen bases with 37. The Hall of Famer's great season helped lead the Brooklyn Dodgers to the 1949 pennant, and he was the National League MVP. Thus, it is no surprise that the offered Jackie Robinson doll would be issued in the next season, 1950. The doll is approximately 6.75" in height. The plastic left leg of the doll is detached, but still in the uniform. A 6" wooden baseball bat comes with the doll, and the bat has a facsimile Jackie Robinson autograph. The doll wears what was once a blue Brooklyn cap, but the color has faded to brown, as has the once blue team jacket that the Robinson doll sports, and the once blue socks. There is a blue stain on the lower part of the back of the jacket. Some of the lettered script of "Dodgers" on both the front and the back of the jacket has come off, and there are a few loose threads and a few minor wrinkles. The arms of the doll move, as does the intact left leg, and the neck. Despite the foregoing imperfections, the doll is a vintage memento of Jackie Robinson, whose immense historical impact in breaking baseball's unwritten "Color Line" not only changed baseball, but forever changed American society.
