Original Chicago Stadium Brick
Offered is an original brick from one of America's most famous arenas, Chicago Stadium. Built in 1929, Chicago Stadium was the home to the Chicago Blackhawks hockey team from 1929-94 and the Chicago Bulls basketball team from 1967-94. Chicago Stadium closed in 1994 and was demolished in 1995. The off-white brick measures 2.25x2.25x3.75", and it has a 2x4.5" plaque on the front. In gold-colored letters and numerals on a black background, the plaque reads, "Authentic Chicago Stadium Brick From The West Wall 1929-1994 'Remember the Roar'." The plaque's reference to "Remember the Roar" comes from the arena's reputation as the loudest NBA stadium in existence. The stadium also had a 3,663 pipe Barton Organ that added decibels to the roar of the crowd. The Chicago Stadium was the host to the Chicago Bulls first three NBA Championships, and the 1934 and '38 Stanley Cup Championships won by the Blackhawks. The stadium had various seating capacities, and occasionally would hold crowds over 20,000. Many noteworthy boxing bouts (including Rocky Marciano's victory over Jersey Joe Walcott in 1953) and other top fights, including the TKO win by Sugar Ray Robinson in the last and 6th time he fought Jake LaMotta. Chicago Stadium also hosted the 1932 NFL Championship Game when snow and freezing temperatures forced the game indoors, and the Chicago Bears defeated the Portsmouth Spartans by 9-0 in the NFL's first playoff game and first game held indoors. Chicago Stadium also held both Democratic and Republican National Conventions, as well as numerous concerts, including appearances by The Rolling Stones, The Who, and The Grateful Dead. The last event held in Chicago Stadium was a charity basketball game on Sept. 9, 1994, in which Michael Jordan's White team defeated Scottie Pippen's Red team 187-150, and Jordan scored 52 points, and then after the game knelt and kissed the Chicago Bulls' logo at center court. The brick shows the expected unevenness and chipping that is to be expected when bricks are separated, but overall, the brick is in excellent condition and weighs 58 ounces. This Chicago Stadium brick makes a fine remembrance of one of the country's most famous indoor stadia.
