Pair of 1956 Brooklyn Dodgers Tour of Japan Ticket Stubs
Pair of scarce Japanese ticket stubs (5.25x3") issued for games during the Brooklyn Dodgers 1956 postseason goodwill tour of Japan. The tickets are dated, respectively, 10-20 (October 20th) and 10-21 (October 21st), with each ticket featuring a colorful illustrated "action" scene on the front. The nineteen-game tour began on October 19th, therefore these tickets were issued for the second and third games of the tour. The October 20th ticket bears a Korakuen Stadium stamp on the reverse. The Dodgers were well received by the Japanese fans during their visit and, after a slow start, finished the tour with a record of 14-4-1. On October 20th the Dodgers defeated the Yomiuri Giants 7-1, with Roy Campanella contributing two home runs in the win. The next day, on October 21st, the Dodgers were defeated 6-1 by a team of Japanese All-Stars. Unbeknownst to everyone at the time, the nineteen games in Japan marked the last nineteen games of Jackie Robinson's career, as he officially retired shortly after arriving back home. The October 20th ticket stub displays a moderate vertical fold, while the other ticket displays two moderate vertical folds; otherwise each is in Excellent condition.
