Pat Collins Autograph - 1927 Yankees Member (PSA)
Presented is the cut autograph of catcher Pat Collins, a member of "Murderers' Row," the nickname for the lineup of the 1927 New York Yankees, a team regarded by many as the best baseball team of all time. Tharon Leslie "Pat" Collins played 10 Major League seasons: St. Louis Browns (1919-26), New York Yankees (1926-28), and Boston Braves (1929). Collins usually was a back-up catcher in the Major Leagues, but because of an injury to Yankees catcher Benny Bengough, Collins did the bulk of the catching for the '27 Yanks. He played in 92 games and batted .275, with a good OPS of .820. Collins was a member of three Yankee World Champions (1926-28) and batted .254 for his regular season career. When Collins was with the St. Louis Browns, he became the only player to have ever pinch run and pinch hit in the same game. In the third inning of a game against the Philadelphia Athletics on June 8, 1923, Homer Ezzell was on base for the Browns and Ezzell had to use the restroom. Collins was allowed to run for Ezzell, and later, with Philadelphia manager Connie Mack granting sportsmanlike approval, Ezzell was allowed to re-enter the game and Collins was also allowed to make another appearance in the game as a pinch hitter. The 1927 Yankees went 110-44 in the regular season to win the AL pennant by 19 games, then the Yanks swept the Pittsburgh Pirates in the World Series. As for the Murderers' Row line-up (named after Murderers' Row in the Tombs Jail in New York City), center fielder Earle Combs batted .307; left fielder Bob Meusel hit .337; right fielder Babe Ruth hit his then record 60 home runs, plus batting .356 and knocking in 164 runs; first baseman Lou Gehrig hit .373, with 47 home runs and a then record 175 RBIs. The Collins signature (signed as Pat Collins) is on an approx. .75x4" cut, possibly from an autograph book. Collins neatly signed in pencil. The cut autograph has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified "AUTHENTIC AUTO." As the amazing 1927 Yankee team approaches its 100th Anniversary in 2027, interest in the team will be sparked, and an autograph from a member of the 1927 Yankees will be a valued addition to any collecting line-up.
