Pete Rose 1973 Silver Batting Championship Bat
Rose slides into second, trying to break up the double play on the ball that Joe Morgan hit to Mets first baseman John Milner in the fifth inning of Game 3 of the NLCS. The Mets' shortstop, Bud Harrelson, begins to fight...the game is almost called off while Mets fans throw objects at Rose from the stands! Finally, some order is restored, and the game resumes...This brilliant all-silver bat was purchased from Pete Rose, and was the second of its kind that Rose had made. A "#2" has been stamped in the knob, with a cutout circle in the center of the knob, indicating that the bat is hollow. This kind of bat is the same one given to the player with the league's highest batting average. The stamp is the same as is found on a wooden bat, with "Hillerich & Bradsby Louisville Slugger" on the barrel. To the right of this is stamped "Batting Champion 1973, National League B.A. - .338". Next to this, it says, "Genuine Pete Rose Louisville Slugger." The bat measures 33 1/2" long and weighs 32 oz. In 1973 Rose led the league with 230 hits and a .338 batting average, winning the National League MVP award and leading his team to the National League Championship Series against the Mets.
