Pete Rose 4,192 Hit Signed Newspaper Display
Displayed is a wonderfully detailed, newspaper display print, made as a limited edition, as a memento of Pete Rose's record-breaking hit number 4,192 on September 11, 1985, before a sellout crowd of 52,000 at Cincinnati's Riverfront Stadium, when "Charlie Hustle" broke Ty Cobb's Major League record of 4,191 career hits in a 2-0 Reds' victory. Rose played 25 Major League seasons, and he was with the Cincinnati Reds from 1963-78, the Philadelphia Phillies from 1979-83, the Montreal Expos in 1984, and a second stint with Cincinnati from 1984-89. Rose was a 17-time All-Star, the National League Rookie of the Year in 1963, the NL MVP in '73, the World Series MVP in 1975, and a 3-time World Champion. He still holds MLB records for hits (4,256), singles (3,215), and games (3,562). The offered print is taken from the September 12, 1985, special edition front page of the Cincinnati Enquirer. This special printing is called "Pete Rose - The Collector's Edition." The headline on the print reads, "4,192: Pete Singles Past Ty Cobb." On the print, three stories appear: "Numbers Don't Tell Full Story", by Tim Sullivan, "Memory Will Last Forever," by Howard Wilkinson, and "7th-Inning Triple Adds No. 4,193," by Greg Hoard. The record-breaking hit came in the bottom of the first inning, on Rose's first trip to the plate, on a 2-1 pitch, from Eric Show of the San Diego Padres. Batting left-handed, Rose slapped a hit into left-center field. The print is framed at approx. 14.1x24.1". The print is in excellent condition. Rose has signed the print in blue ink from a marker, and his neatly written signature is 9/10.
